There are 21 graduates in the first basic training class at the Western Kentucky Training Facility in Madisonville. One is from the Greenville Police Department. Ethan Wells will now participate in a Field Training Program before he begins his regular patrol duties. Two Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies are also in that graduating class. Austin Kurtz and Skylerr Armstrong will now begin field training.
It was an unsafe motorcyclist that was stopped by a cop Monday afternoon on Arch Street. Timothy Britton could not produce a motorcycle operator’s license or an insurance card. After failing the sobriety test, the officer judged that Britton was a danger to himself and others and had him taken to the county jail.
Two FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are scheduled to close permanently before Sunday. They are the centers in Muhlenberg and Webster counties. Disaster Recovery Centers are one-stop shops where you can get information and advice on help from state, federal and community organizations. FEMA has been encouraging April storm victims to apply for federal disaster assistance as soon as possible.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation says as federal lawmakers debate cuts to safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, the Foundation’s Leslie Boissiere (bwa-SAIR) says she hopes they review the data in the report before any final moves. (Clip in audio below)
The Georgetown Law Center on Poverty and Inequality says possible cuts to SNAP and Medicaid could put children at risk of malnutrition, obesity, and chronic disease.
A classroom at the Madisonville Police Regional Training Complex on Nebo Road is named after a former law enforcement officer. From 1990 to 2000, Ron Hunt was the Police Chief, and from 2008 to the present day,he has served as A-B-C Administrator. Hunt retired from the Kentucky State Police following 30 years of service.
In Madisonville, the city is expecting grocery shopping to improve for residents in the southwest part of town. Construction is well underway on an upscale Dollar General grocery store that would feature fresh produce. It could be open in late August.
To abide by a new state law, the Dawson Springs Independent School District is requiring all technology-based communication between school staff and students and student athletes to be limited to official school email accounts, or Parent Square. Every school employee or active volunteer will no longer be able to legally utilize text messaging or any other applications to two-way communicate with students. Parents not using ParentSquare may submit a request to download the ParentSquare or Student Square app for their phone.
A Christian ministry in Dixon that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual facets of addiction is having success. Guesting on Coalfield Comments, Tim Dunsmore and Noal Adamson of Western Kentucky Teen Challenge say that lives of men and woman are being changed.
