The Madisonville police have a suspect in an assault case outside of the El Bracero restaurant on Sunday. The police say 61-year-old Darin Dublin is responsible for producing serious head injuries to Roger McCarty during the noon hour. Following a chase, Dublin was apprehended a few blocks away by the M-P-D and the sheriff’s office. McCarty is hospitalized in critical condition. The police are now saying that no knife was used in the attack.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a major drug arrest. On Saturday at 1 o’clock in the morning, deputies executed a search warrant in Providence on Locust Street. Arrested and placed in the detention center was James Franklin. Recovered were marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of currency.
The Kentucky Center for Economic Policy says proposed sweeping cuts to Medicaid by Congress could leave more people without access to treatment or medication. Ashley Spalding says the program is critical for people in recovery. (Clip in audio below) Medicaid funding is used for medications like suboxone and methadone., harm reduction tools such as Narcan and fentanyl strips, and other community-based services.
Highway projects are keeping the Transportation Cabinet busy. In Hopkins County, slide repair will be done on U-S 41 at mile marker 12. In Webster County, washout repair is underway at mile 3 of KY 132. Base failure repair will be done on Kentucky 1-43 at mile marker 3.
The Madisonville police are warning residents that phone and text scams are increasing. Detective Austin Young is encouraging all residents to withhold personal information that these scammers desire. (Clip in audio below)
There’s a new safety feature for the residents of Webster County. Emergency Management officials say the county is now accepting 9-1-1 text messages. This will be especially helpful for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired. It will also be available in situations where speaking could compromise safety, like domestic violence, home invasions, or an active shooter. The details about how to text to 9-1-1 are on the Webster County Emergency Management Facebook page.
The Webster County School District says the summer will be filled with maintenance and construction projects. They say the work includes everything from roofing projects to facility upgrades.
Much of the governor’s attention is focused on promoting the launch of Pre-K for All. He says the early childhood education will give every child the chance to succeed, regardless of their background. Mr. Beshear says Pre-K For All could save households 7-thousand dollars a year in child care costs and grow the workforce up to 70-thousand.
Muhlenberg County High School has a new principal. Mrs. Nika Ball has worked in the school system for twelve years. For the last five years, Mrs. Ball has been one of the high school assistant principals.
