The Madisonville police have the details about the arrest of an intoxicated man on a mini-golf course who had passed out. They say Julio Rivera was in possession of a T-H-C vape pen. Rivera was booked into the county jail on a Controlled Substance charge.
A disturbance is what drew the M-P-D to an address on Murray Place. The officer heard how that Elijah Thrower had been discipling a child too harshly and that he was to have no contact with her because of an emergency protection order issued in Muhlenberg County. Thrower was placed under arrest and transported to the detention center.
The new Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office on Grapevine Road is positioned to be more efficient for county residents. The actual address is 31-hundred Grapevine Road. County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield says it’s location is closer to the people they serve. (Clip in audio below)
The Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and A-A-R-P Kentucky are promoting the Grandparent of the Year” contest. Kentucky Youth Advocates says 55-thousand kids, or an estimated six-percent, live with a relative that is not their biological parent, and is often a grandparent. That’s among the highest rates in the nation. May is Older Americans Month.
It’s not common for the person calling the police to be charged with 5 crimes and put in jail. Pamela Oldham contacted the M-P-D for assistance. In attempting to deliver a Door Dash order, she provided the officer with her identification card that revealed that she had a suspended driver’s license and a restriction on her license that she must have an interlock device. The officer then noted that Oldham was slurring her words and that she smelled like alcohol. The officers then spotted an open alcoholic beverage in plain view.
The traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle in I-69 is what led to two drug charges against the driver. After Felicia McKenzie consented to a vehicle search, the drug dog Loki alerted the officer to suspected methamphetamine in the center console, and a hyperdermic needle. McKenzie admitted that the meth belonged to her.
Since youth aging out of the foster care system still struggle to obtain housing and employment, a new organization is developing to assist in the transition into adulthood. Tatum Abel is a peer engagement coordinator for True Up Kentucky. She became homeless after she turned 18 and was unaware of the resources available to smooth out her transition. Kentucky has a new law which aims to close the gaps in accessing additional financial support for kinship caregivers, but the lack of funding has stalled implementation.
In Webster County, Sheriff Billy Braden is hoping to crack down on drunk driving with a number of traffic safety checkpoints.
