The Madisonville police report that multiple violations led to a traffic stop last week on the interstate at Exit 1-14. Joyce Keck faces 5 charges. The officer reported the smell of marijuana inside her Hyundai Santa Fe. Keck was in possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, and cocaine, as well as two unspecified drugs.
The Hopkins County State Representative says the reduction of the state income tax is a move in the right direction to improve many economic areas. Wade Williams says lawmakers are also in agreement in another area. (Clip in audio below)
The Greenville police are holding a Beaver Dam man for illegal sex acts with a minor. 60-year-old Thomas Woods faces four charges that include procuring use of a minor by electronic means. The G-P-D was assisted by the Muhlenberg County and Ohio County Sheriff’s offices.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says one of their new projects is along the Western Kentucky Parkway in Central City. To share plans on improving the future I-569 at Exit 58, they will be is hosting a public information meeting this evening (Tuesday) at the Muhlenberg Campus of Madisonville Community College between 5:30 and 7:30. A new gas range at a residence on South Kentucky Avenue is what drew the attention of the fire department. The residents reported a slight gas odor. The homeowner was instructed to shut off the gas and contact Lowe’s to check their installation.
The new Hopkins County school superintendent goes to work on July 1st. Dr. Damon Fleming has served as the assistant superintendent for the last four years. He has degrees from the University of the Cumberlands, Murray State University, and Western Kentucky University. Fleming has also served as a teacher, principal, and director of student services in Muhlenberg and Daviess counties.
When the Hopkins County Fiscal Court meets today they will consider resolutions to modify two roads: Swan Lake Road and Whitfield Cemetery Road. The 10 AM meeting will be at the Government Center. It can be seen on the county Facebook page.
The fire department has the details about a single vehicle accident. Last week, the vehicle experienced moderate damage when it hit a tree at North Main and Noel Avenue. The driver was about to pass out but was able to speak fairly clearly to the first responders. She had a history of diabetes and thyroid issues.
Thousands of coal-mining jobs have been lost in recent decades. More than 16-thousand inspections were conducted last year. A policy and advocacy associate with the law center adds that proposed cuts to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health would include inspector layoffs. Here’s Brendan Muckian-Bates.
