To support residents who experienced storm damage this month, a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center is open at 605 East Arch Street. The hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 until 7, and on Sunday from one until 7. Assistance programs will be explained as well as other recovery efforts. You can learn about insurance and unemployment insurance, as well as business recovery. The information website is: fema dot G-O-V.
The state police are reporting the arrest of a Webster County man. The Electronic Crime Branch produced evidence that led to the incarceration of 32-year-old Joseph Kellems of Morganfield. He is charged with promoting or procuring use of a minor by electronic means. The state police say their investigation is not over.
In Hopkins County, the school district is again taking registrations for the new school year in August. The Infinite Campus Parent Portal is open. Parents may also register new students, from kindergarten through grade 12. Only the legal guardian listed for the student in the primary household can complete the online registration. Your child’s school may have some other forms that need to be completed.
The nonprofit Prison Policy Initiative says Kentucky counties with small populations often have see high rates of incarceration for minor offenses. Spokesperson Wanda Bertram says small towns and counties pour a huge amount of public resources into these arrests. (Clip in audio below)
Madisonville’s regional airport is reporting another successful Beech Bash in the Bluegrass. The just concluded event also involved Mahr Park Arboretum. The city is reporting that hundreds from all over the country came to our community.
Some record numbers are going up at Madisonville Community College. In 2023-24, M-C-C awarded 17-hundred and 47 credentials. That’s an all-time high. The school is also reporting that the Fall 2024 enrollment was the highest since 2019. They say all these figures are an indicator of growth.

The woman caught shoplifting on South Main is facing five charges. The police say Ashlynn White visited Huck’s Gas Station and was seen leaving with unpaid for food. She was found nearby on private property. The police had also learned that White had several arrest warrants. One of her charges is possession of methamphetamine. Also arrested with White was Brandon Marlow. During a search, Marlow was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He faces three charges.
21WEBSTER COUNTY 0429 This is from Webster County Emergency Management. Two organizations assisting residents affected by flooding are Christian Aid Ministries and Team Rubicon.
