It was an expired temporary tag that led to a traffic stop late Thursday night. The officer noticed the smell of alcohol in Jacob Grace’s Dodge Challenger when it was stopped on Spicer Avenue. After submitting to a field sobriety test, Grace was placed under arrest for D-U-I. A half-full alcoholic beverage was found in the front passenger floorboard.
The Powderly police are reporting that two trucks and trailers were stolen from the Board of Education Maintenance Department on Sunday morning. Social media is being used to display a photo of a suspect. If you know the identity of the driver, please contact authorities.
Officials say the prescription take-back on Saturday is being deemed a success. Champions for a Drug Free Muhlenberg County and Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital say nearly two 5-gallon R-X Destroyer jugs were filled with unused prescriptions medications and collected almost 20 pounds of sharps. Remember, you can bring your unused or expired prescription pills to the Greenville Police Department to be destroyed.
Dozens of mine safety field offices in Kentucky and across the country would close under a proposal by the federal Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. A policy and advocacy associate with the law center says closing those offices could turn a 30-minute drive to inspect a rural coal mine into a 3 or 4-hour round trip. Here is Brendan Muckian-Bates. Today is the Hopkins County Job Expo. The supersized job and career fair will be at the Ballard Convention Center from 9:30 until 2:30. It’s described as a chance to explore career and education opportunities.
Hopkins County is still not a disaster area. Once the president makes the declaration, residents can make requests for assistance. FEMA says those who applied before the official declaration, will have to reapply.
A broken tail light is what led to a traffic stop on South Main near Dulin in Madisonville. The canine Arkham alerted the officers to narcotics in the G-M Envoy (ahn-voy). Then, two glass pipes with suspected meth residue were located as well as a small bag of marijuana. Charles Langston and his passenger, Rachel Goffinet, denied ownership, but both Langston and Goffinet were charged with possession of a controlled substance and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is announcing that they are thankful for receiving a grant from the Kentucky Association of Counties. They say the 72-hundred dollars will be used to keep deputies and staff safe. The H-C-S-O says it appreciates its partnership with the Kentucky Association of Counties.
The newest organization around is the West Kentucky Film Commission. Mayor Kevin Cotton says Trish Noel of the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission is heading up this new group. (Clip in audio below) The mayor says this new opportunity has the potential to provide millions of dollars.
