She was born on July 10, 1934, in Madisonville to the late Georgia Mitchell Peyton and Samuel “Duck” Forrest Puryear. She was a 1952 graduate of Madisonville High School and after graduation attained a degree from Lockyear’s Business College. Wanda was formerly a bookkeeper at Sharps Camper and Marine and later worked at Hoskins and Francis. She attended First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Wanda enjoyed sewing, gardening, planting flowers, fishing, boating and playing bridge. Her greatest joy was her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Joseph Lander; her sister, Janice Puryear Cardwell; and her brother, Forrest “Buddy” Puryear.
She is survived by her loving sons, Greg Lander, Dave (Beverly) Lander and Mitch (Michelle) Lander; brother, William Darriel (Dorothy) Puryear; granddaughters, Jessica (Chad) Floyd, Elizabeth (Tait) Cavanaugh and Kellie (Annie) George; grandsons, Samuel (Shannon) Lander, Connor Lander and Cody Lander; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Madisonville. Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville was in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made Wanda’s memory to the Door of Hope or the Christian Food Bank of Hopkins County.
