Donald Patrick Rhodes (“Pat”), 68, of Hanson, passed away on January 15, 2025.
Born on May 5, 1956, in Madisonville, Kentucky, Pat was the son of Joseph Donald Rhodes and Lillian Fowler Rhodes and grew up in nearby Earlington.
Pat was a man of many talents, known for his craftsmanship, music, and a career spanning construction, mine equipment sales, and building inspection. He was a naturally gifted and creative individual, with an uncanny ability to excel at anything he tried. His interests were as varied as his talents, and he approached everything he did with focus, skill, and a deep sense of curiosity.
Pat was a talented woodworker whose creations blended functionality, beauty, and creativity. He handcrafted dulcimers and other musical instruments, merging his love of music with his exceptional woodworking skills. One of his most notable pieces was a reproduction of a Sam Maloof rocker, which won first place at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts show.
Pat was also an active member of the Pennyrile Dulcimer Club, where he shared his passion for music and connected with others who shared his interests. His woodworking extended beyond artistry to deeply personal projects, including crafting an urn for his in-laws—a testament to his thoughtfulness and care.
Pat is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lisa; his daughters, Megan (Phil) Williams and Amber (Sam) Chinn; and his grandsons, Maxwell Jude Chinn and Beck Taylor Chinn. He is also survived by four brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Pat’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service. He will be remembered for his remarkable talents, independent spirit, and the legacy of artistry and music he leaves behind.
