The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a fatal traffic accident in Dawson Springs. It occurred shortly before 9 on Tuesday morning in the 18-thousand block of Beulah Road. A semi was unable to negotiate a turn and went off the road. Extraction equipment was used to retrieve the driver. David Pleasant was 63.
A vehicle stopped for eratic driving the other day is what led to two arrests. The Toyota Camry was searched at the Ideal Market on East Center Street. Suspected meth and a partial suboxone strip were located. Brittany Vincent and Kelvin Wooten denied ownership. Another search produced fake urine and a number of loose pills. Vincent and Wooten each face 5 drug charges.
The Hopkins County Regional Chamber of Commerce is under new leadership. The new president is Karen Solise (so-LEECE). (Clip can be heard in audio below). The chamber is a non-profit corporation that focuses on issues which affect economic vitality.
In order to increase economic opportunities, the state will be enhancing railroads and riverports. The plan involves two riverport projects and four railroad projects. Governor Beshear says rail and riverport investments help us support the industries that boost our communities and economy. He says applicants will provide a 50 percent match.
A Hopkins County man is now in police custoday. 30-year-old Tyler Morgan was lodged at the Hopkins County Detention Center. He had been locked up for multiple crimes that include cruelty to animals, theft, fleeing from the police, and fraud. Some of Morgan’s crimes were committed in Vanderburgh County.
The Madisonville Fire Department has the report of a downed power line. In the middle of the night a few days ago, the wire appeared to be in contact with a U-Haul truck at 9-25 West Broadway. Using the electrical detector wand, the wire was removed. It turns out that the wire was not hot.
In Sebree, the Red Cross is assisting the family with temporary housing that recently lost their home to fire. Neighbors called 911. By the time fire fighters arrived, it was too late. No one was injured. Community members have posted on Facebook where people can donate clothing for the children, and give monetary donations on Venmo.
Two organizations say slashing Medicaid’s budget would harm rural communities. Emily Beauregard of Kentucky Voices for Health says more than one-point-two million residents rely on the program for health coverage. She says Medicaid funding brings more than 14-billion dollars into the state annually. Kentucky ranks among a handful of states with the highest percentage of working-age adults who rely on Medicaid for health coverage.
