Bobby Don Jones, Sr., 78, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at his home.
He was born on June 21, 1946, in Earlington, KY, to Alonzo and Ora Mae Vannoy Jones. Bob loved his wife, kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all his heart. He thought of his sons-in-law and daughters-in-law as his own. If you were blessed enough to know Bob, you know he always had a car to talk about that he wanted to sell or trade. In his day he was the best body shop man around and his only son inherited this talent from him. He was an exceptional pool player and played in many tournaments with his son-in-law and eldest daughter. In his earlier days, while working for York International, he played in chess tournaments and did quite well and played on a softball team as well. Bob was just an all-around good guy who always had a joke to tell or even play on someone. He was quick-witted and was never at a loss for words. He could meet you for the first time and you would feel like you had known him all your life afterwards. He was passionate about old cars and loved discussing them with like-minded people but would sure teach you about them if you didn’t know about them. He enjoyed attending the Frog Follies each year. He was a straight shooter and just said what he felt and welcomed that from others as well. He always had a “back in my day” story to tell his Grandchildren and they just ate it up. He had so much compassion for his children as they were going through trials and always had his arms open to hug you or his lap to just lay across. He never judged but instead listened. As he began to slow down and was staying home more, he began to have some bad days but regardless of how he felt, he put that beautiful smile on his face and did not complain but instead would pick up his tablet and find someone to beat at a game of online hearts. We will miss everything about him and will always remember how much fun he made our lives. He taught us so many life lessons and we will cherish every memory we have.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Jones; and his son-in-law Darin Daves.
Survivors include his dedicated wife, Margaret Ann Tucker Jones, of fifty-seven years who always stood by his side; his children, Kimberly (Doug) Oates, Angela (David) Greene, Bobby (Karen) Jones Jr., Tonya (Greg) Stevens, and Jennifer Daves; brothers, Ronald Jones & Roger Jones; sister, Carol Fuller; ten grandchildren, Jackie, Jayde, Jonathan, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Brock, Zachary, Brooke, Maci, and Dalton; numerous great grandchildren, who adored him and called him Papaw; along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Gifford officiating and Ronnie Byrum assisting. Burial will be held at a later date in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until the funeral hour on Friday at the funeral home.
