Jimmy Allen Townsend, 78, of Slaughters, KY passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at his home.
He was born on December 3, 1946, in Slaughters, KY, to the late Ruby Edith Brooks Townsend and Buford Townsend. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserve from 1966 thru 1971. He retired after thirty-seven years from Texas Gas. He was a farmer, avid UK basketball fan, and enjoyed sitting in his front porch swing drinking hot black coffee. He loved his Stanley thermos full of hot black coffee, watching western movies, and listening to Ralph Stanley and Elvis Presley. He enjoyed lying in his hammock at the farm, he always had candy for his grandchildren, and he wore pearl snap shirts for the last forty years. His priorities were providing for his family and serving the Lord. He loved taking the grandchildren on 4-wheeler rides and playing cards with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Debra Chandler Townsend.
Survivors include his son, Keith (Carolyn) Townsend of Fredonia, KY; daughter, Kimberly (Jon) Brown of Dixon, KY; grandchildren, Kara Gardner, Daniel Yancy, Dustin Townsend, Dylan Townsend, and Michael Brown; great-grandchildren, Blake Townsend, Caleb Gardner, Brody Yancy, Casey Garrett, Silas Townsend, Audri Garrett, Addy Brown, and Nelson Brown; brothers and sisters, David Townsend of Slaughters, Larry Townsend of Hanson, KY, Michael Townsend of Slaughters, Sharon (Mike) Copley of Slaughters, Jackie (Shandra) Townsend of Slaughters, Roger Townsend of Slaughters, Darryl (Tonja) Townsend of Slaughters, Charlotte (Bobby) Marsh of Slaughters, Ricky (Shelly) Townsend of Sebree; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. John McCurry officiating. Burial to follow at Slaughters Cemetery in Slaughters, KY.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Daniel Yancy, Dylan Gardner, Caleb Gardner, Dylan Townsend, Blake Townsend, and Michael Brown. The honorary pallbearers are Casey Garrett and Brody Yancy.
