All of the conditions for serious winter weather seem to be coming together. This means frigid temperatures and winter precipitation. It also means frozen pipes, dangerous roads, and harmful conditions for outdoor animals.

Most states offer paid parental leave for employees, but not Kentucky. Here is Dustin Pugel with the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy.
An increasing number of large private companies in the Commonwealth are providing paid parental leave to employees.
More and more K-C-T-C-S students are incarcerated. In the last four years, enrollments in the G-E-D prep classes grew to well over 14-thousand. Studies show that education not only benefits inmates, but it also produces societal benefits, such as lowering rates of recidivism. President Ryan Quarles says everyone benefits when these individuals reenter our communities and the workforce with a credential that will help them build better lives for themselves and their families.

Winter weather is possible for Western Kentucky this weekend. The state is pretreating the highways.
Additional drug charges are being made against a Madisonville man who had been arrested on drug charges just hours earlier. 24-year-old Trevion Benton was incarcerated on Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, the police were able to listen to a phone call he had with his girlfriend. This led officers to check the vehicle for drugs that had been hidden. This led to the discovery of more controlled substances.
In Washington, Congressman James Comer wants to improve services for our veterans. He says their unwavering service to our country is a testament to their patriotism, and that’s why he’s supporting legislation which would provide over 337-billion dollars to the Department of Veterans Affairs, with much of it allocated for medical care. Mr. Comer says if any veteran in the 1st Congressional District ever needs assistance to navigate the bureaucracy of the federal government to obtain their hard-earned benefits, he hopes they will not hesitate to contact his office.
Kentuckians are being urged to get the REAL ID. Beginning in May, it will be required to board commercial flights and allow access military bases. To get the card, residents 18 and over must visit a Driver Licensing Regional Office and present proof of identity, proof of social security, and two proofs of residency. The objective of the REAL-ID is to establish security standards for state-issued identification documents.
