As is common this time of year, Madisonville Public Works has schedule changes. Wednesday’s routes will be run today. Tomorrow, (On Friday), they’ll do Thursday’s routes. On Saturday, they do Friday’s routes.
Thanks to ‘ol man winter, state road crews are beginning to pre-treat the roads. The salt brine mixture will first be added to Primary Routes. When you see the crews, please slow down for their safety. To get travel information, a good place to visit is snow k-y dot k-y dot G-O-V.
It’s not smart to drive with a suspended license. Callum Rickard was spotted by the police on Island Ford Road by a cop who knew the score. In no time, Rickard was arrested and transported to the county jail.
This year, the Environmental Protection Agency took action on the toxic chemicals known as PFAS (“P-foss”) by labeling two types of these compounds as hazardous substances. Yet new data shows far more people are exposed than previously thought. Julia Finch with Kentucky’s chapter of the Sierra Club hopes the incoming Trump administration protects federal drinking water standards.
Finch says that manufacturers must be willing to stop using what are often called forever chemicals.
Flags will be at half-staff in honor of President Carter through the 28th. Governor Beshear says Jimmy Carter lived his faith and values, lifting up his neighbors and serving our country through kindness and compassion.

The driver that recently ran a stop sign on Grapevine Road is facing 8 charges. James Scott could not provide a driver’s license or proof of insurance. The K-9 Drax found a number of baggies that included amphetamine and methamphetamine. Central Dispatch then informed the officer that there was a warrant for the front seat passenger. Douglas Simmons was also arrested.
A graduate of Dawson Springs High School is making a name for himself. CNN political analyist Scott Jennings is the only conservative on the liberal network. Even though he has faced a huge amount of resistance from his own colleagues, Jennings has articulated conservatism so well, so often, that he has been named the Washington Free Beacon Man of the Year.
In Washington D-C, our 1st District representative is out with an interesting figure. James Comer says he and his staff assisted over 23-thousand who contacted is office in 2024.
A reading program for young children is being expanded. The goal of the Imagination Library of Kentucky is to inspire a love of reading by making books available to all children regardless of the family’s income. Governor Beshear says the plan is to provide one free book a month to each child.

In Owensboro, the Air Force Thunderbirds will be in the 2026 Air Show. The dates will be September 11th to the 13th, 2026. In recent years, the air show has seen its largest crowds.
