The Hopkins County Fiscal Court meets tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. The court will hear the sheriff’s amended 2024 Fee account budget,. The meeting begins at 10 at the Government Center.
Law enforcement is warning of a potential phone scam in Muhlenberg County. The Sherriff’s Office says the caller is pretending to be with Kentucky Utilities. He informs his potential victim that he needs to pay his bill over the phone or his service will be disconnected. K-U says they would never call and ask for credit or debit card numbers or other personal information. If you think you have been victimized, contact law enforcement.
The C-E-O of the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky says America has a serious problem with obesity. Ben Chandler says almost half of all teens and young adults now are either overweight or obese, compared with 29-percent in 1990. He says the issue cannot be tackled solely through individual changes in behavior.
The annual book that takes a retrospective look at how Kentucky’s youth are progressing is now available. The Kentucky KIDS COUNT Data Book is published by the Kentucky Youth Advocates. When you’re online, search Kentucky KIDS COUNT Data Book.
Looking for a sparkling collection of Christmas trees and wreaths? The Anne P. Baker Gallery at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts has a display entitled Glitter, Glisten, and Glow. Viewers are invited to vote for their favorites the 13th. Awards will be presented on the 13th at the M-C-C Singers Community Christmas Concert.

Our region has a new award. The United Way of the Coalfield will soon name the Citizen of the Year. It’s for residents of Hopkins, Muhlenberg, or Caldwell who are known for their generosity and their public service. Visit their Facebook page for nomination details.
In Hopkins County, the 17-year process of creating the Kentucky Sports Factory is just about over. All of the residents of Hopkins County and beyond will find it to be a unique facility that promises many positive benefits for families and the community. Like everyone, Judge Executive Jack Whitfield is glad the day is almost here.
It’s a long way off, but the Webster County School District is out with next year’s calendar. It appears on the district’s Facebook page. Classes begin on Tuesday, August 12th. Fall break is the week of October 6th.
Baptist Health Deaconess is reporting that interior renovations are in progress at their Powderly clinic. Some provider offices may be relocated until the work is completed. They suggest monitoring social media or making a call to keep up with the project.
The latest thing in Pennyrile Area Development District is the Memory Cafe. Memory Cafés are designed to provide a welcoming, supportive environment for individuals and families affected by dementia, while also promoting mental well-being to help reduce the risk of cognitive decline. This program is part of the Bridging the Gap pilot program.
