The National Weather Service says a wave of frigid temperatures are likely to impact the region after Thanksgiving. Wind chills in the teens and single digits are likely.
A swerving Ford Crown Victoria on I-69 is what led to a traffic stop. Since it appeared that Angel Howard was attempting to hide something, the k-9 Loki was called in. The dog sniffed out meth and another unspecified drug, as well as drug paraphernalia and an unidentified prescription container. Howard was taken to the county jail and charged with four crimes.
The state police have new details about a traffic death near Central City. On July 2nd, the vehicle being driven by 61-year-old Quinton Basham of Bremen entered the other lane and struck a Buick Encore head on. The Buick’s driver was treated at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Basham lost his life. Initially, it was thought that the Buick entered Basham’s lane.
The biggest problem in the city of Dixon may be the abundance of cats. There is no animal shelter, and animal control services are limited. Channel 14 is quoting a veterinarian who says the situation is disturbing. The county has denied a proposal to have a free spay and neuter service.
Older Kentuckians are the most likely age group to fall victim to scams. They’re common in business and investment, cryptocurrency and romance. Gary Adkins points to the AARP Fraud Watch Network as a resource for prevention strategies and updates on the latest scams.

Many are glad to see Hopkins County’s new effort to enforce the nuisance violations. In fiscal court, county attorney Lee Riddle said many violations are on abandoned property.

The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a very slow driver who also was on the sidewalk. Alisha Jackson was arrested on Hopewell Street. She is charged with careless driving, having a license plate that is not illuminated, and driving while intoxicated.

In Central City, the new fire chief is a veteran fire fighter. Caleb Phelps got his first job when he was 18 at the Beechmont Volunteer Fire Department. At the Central City Fire Department, Phelps was the deputy chief prior to his new position.
The Christian Food Bank of Hopkins County is reminding everyone that their annual fundraiser is Thanksgiving morning. The Run for the Hungry at Mahr Park Arboretum helps raise much needed funds.
