Cody Johnson won Album of the Year at the CMA Awards on Wednesday (November 20) for his recent record, Leather. But it was the moment when CoJo let his producer Trent Willmon say a few words during his acceptance speech that made some big headlines. “It takes an army of people to make a great record, but I gotta tell ya, this is for this cowboy who’s been kicking shaboozey for a lot of years, y’all,” Willmon said in his curious speech. Fans on social media immediately assumed he was throwing shade at Shaboozey, the chart-topping, breakout country star who was nominated for New Artist of the Year and Single of the Year at the CMAs but went home empty handed. Shaboozey performed his 18-weeks and running No. 1 hit, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” during the ceremony, and was clearly unfazed by Willmon’s remark. “Ain’t nobody kicking me!” he tweeted later, along with a smiling photo of himself, clearly unbothered by the incident.
