The state is reporting that several new bridges are open in Hopkins County. This includes the one on Coiltown Road that’s been closed for over two years. There are also three new bridges in the Clear Creek Water Shed.
The Madisonville City Council meeting this afternoon will include a closed session. The discussion will involve proposed or pending litigation against or on behalf of the public agency. The meeting begins at 4:30 at the city council chambers at 77 North Main.
In Hopkins County, the school board meets this evening at 5:30. The meeting will focus on the fall sports athletes of the year, the district’s financial audit, and an update on construction projects. It begins at 5:30 at 3-20 South Seminary Street.
The Commonwealth has a plan to turn recovery into a career pathway. The Kentucky Community & Technical College System says their program aims to provide credentialing and pathways to a career in social work for people in substance use disorder recovery. Carl Wilson says it also provides opportunities for those in recovery to make a living and expand their career horizons.
The Providence Police Department is getting proficient with the new Tazer 10. A Train the Trainer class was attended by law enforcement officers from across the county, as well as school resource officers. It was led by Justin Hartley. Now, the county has seven certified instructors ready to enhance the skills and knowledge of their colleagues in the use of the Taser 10.

Madisonville is working to increase shopping opportunities and to improve the roads. Mayor Kevin Cotton says these projects are often take longer to complete than expected.
The mayor also says in the last three years, the city has seen almost 200-thousand square feet of new, single-family construction, that’s valued at close to 20-million dollars.
Our local college is registering for the winter and spring sessions. Madisonville Community College says all coursework for the winter session will be conducted online and will count toward the spring semester course load. The school wants to remind the community that the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship has free tuition for a number of select associate degrees and short-term certificate programs in high-
demand fields for students without a college degree.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a driver exhibiting the characteristics of intoxication. During the traffic stop late Thursday night on West Noel Avenue, Lloyd Smith was asked why he driving away from his home when he first said that he was headed home. The K-9-Drax sniffed out some controlled substances in Smith’s Chevrolet Silverado.
The Central City Water Plant is concerned about their service lines. The E-P-A and the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet are requiring the Municipal Water & Sewer Office to send out mailers to learn the status of their line inventory. They are working to identify the material used in the service lines. Exposure to lead in drinking water can cause serious health effects. The water office encourages your participation and welcomes your calls.
