There’s good news about attendance at M-C-C. The attendance slump that began with covid appears to be over. Attendance during the fall semester is the highest it’s been in the last five years. The figure is thought to be 35-hundred and 69. President Cindy Kelley says there’s never been a better time to pursue your passions and your career interests.
In Madisonville, a big decision is being made regarding the new sports complex. Mayor Kevin Cotton says its name will help sell the building to people all over the nation. Here is Deputy City Administrator Brad Long.
You probably know that you have to have permit from the fire department to burn most things in Madisonville. If an unauthorized fire is reported, the fire crew will visit the site and put it out. Sometimes though, there is authorized controlled burning. Such was the case recently on North Daves Street. The fire crew spoke with the landowner and found that all was in accordance with regulations.
One of the recent graduates of the Public Safety Telecommunications Academy in Richmond is ready to return to work at Mulenberg 9-1-1. Everyone is glad to have Tiffany Kruse back.
It’s the annual clean-up time in White Plains. The dates for the Fall Clean-Up are November 12th to the 15th. There will be a dumpster at the ball field parking lot for most but not all items.
In Greenville, you might notice that the Rails to Trails Walking Trail is looking good. The Tourism Commission says new banners have been installed to replace the weathered ones. They hope the community will help keep Rails to Trails attractive.

Many are excited to see construction on the Highway 41-A industrial site underway. The Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation says the 100-thousand square foot pad will help attract new opportunities for the county. They say each phase of this future-ready asset brings it closer to Build Ready certification.
The state says by the end of the year, a new turn lane will be added to Veterans Drive in Hanson to benefit Hanson Elementary. Construction begins this week. It’s being reported by Channel 14 that crews hope to have the road project completed before the end of the year.
A major defense announcement out of Washington D-C will directly affect Graham. For the first time in four decades, the Department of Defense will be constructing a U-S-based T-N-T facility. In this case, the Army will award Repkon USA almost half a billion dollars for the project. Media reports indicate that Senator Mitch McConnell helped to secure this vital investment in the munitions supply chain for Muhlenberg County.
All over the country, there’s a shortage of sports officials, especially in the middle and high school levels. No one seems to want a job in which there is so much verbal abuse. In Hopkins County, Matt Bell is the Director of Athletics and Special Programs. He says in many cases, the fans don’t know the rules.
Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville says almost 30 million Americans have some form of diabetes. They also say that one in four doesn’t even realize they have the disease. November is National Diabetes Month.
