The Hopkins County Schools are out with this years Kentucky Summative Assessment and accountability ratings. The state uses the score to asses student performance and to categorize schools. No schools were identified as needing support and improvement. Superintendent, Amy Smith, says the figures this year indicate the district has made strides in closing achievement gaps and ensuring equitable educational opportunities.
One of the seven new board members of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators is a local resident. Nathan Howton, is an alternative school principal with Hopkins County Schools. The state says Howton and the others bring a wealth of experience, leadership, and dedication to KASA’s mission of supporting school leaders and advancing public education. Each has demonstrated a commitment to growing leaders, transforming public education, and shaping students futures.
The driver of a Ford F150, who kept traveling off of Island Ford Rd and going into a ditch, is facing three traffic violations. The police reported last week that Jason Woods appeared to be under the influence of some drug. Woods insurance was located in the trunk but it had expired.
A doctor at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, says a new screening tool seems to be an effective way to spot signs of child abuse. Dr. Melissa Currie says bruising, particularly on babies, is not normal and can be a sign of something serious. Federal data indicates that Kentucky’s rate of child abuse and neglect suppresses the national average.
The National Weather service says the Noaa Weather Radio transmitters serving Western KY will be out of service today. This includes the Madisonville transmitter.

The new police academy opens in Madisonville in February. Kentucky will then have two police academy’s for law enforcement instruction. The original academy is in Richmond, Mayor Kevin Cotton says it often takes seven months for a new hire to get to the police academy. He says that will change with two locations.
The Muhlenberg Economic Growth Alliance says the county will soon have a new training center in Greenville. The county has purchased the former South Middle School property on Pritchett Dr.
The Madisonville Community College says the Western Kentucky Regional Training Center will be focused on PLC, Robotics, Automation, and Mechatronics. As well as workforce training for incumbent workers using simulators and training equipment. In general, the center will provide industry supported and driven programs for individuals who lack the knowledge and skill set to enter our regions industries.
Some traffic stops take a lot of time to process. Wednesday afternoon on Grapevine Rd, John Lyon, was stopped because two passengers were not wearing seatbelts. He was not able to provide the officer with his license or insurance card. And when running Lyons social security card, the officer learned that both have been suspended. The officer also learned that Lyon had not lived at the address in his license in sometime.
A new program at Madisonville North is intended to help with college and career training. True North is part of the community schools program.
