You probably know that drivers not wearing a seat belt could be stopped by the police. Such was the case with 25-year-old Artravious Gaither of Henderson on Monday morning. The officer immediately noticed the smell of marijuana in his Chevrolet Malibu. He also noticed a black pistol in the driver side door. Gaither said it was a BB gun, but the officer confirmed that it was a Smith and Wesson. Central Dispatch notified the officer that that Gaither had an active arrest warrant out of Henderson. Fentanyl was located in the center console.
Public complaints on Tuesday about drug related activity is what resulted in two arrests in Providence by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office. Following the issuance of a warrant, the occupants of a residence on Tower Drive are facing numerous charges. Arrested were Thomas Martin and Lisa Maddox. Quantities of marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia were found. Also found was a stolen firearm.
In Washington, Congressman James Comer is winding up his investigation of the president and his family and their finances. He appeared on NEWSMAX and described the year and a half project that he considers to be proof that crimes were committed. Mr. Comer says the president’s legacy is marked by abuse of public office, corruption, and obstruction.
In Madisonville, you might have noticed that all four of the clocks at the top of the judicial center give the wrong time. The county wants to have them fixed. Only one bid has been submitted.

The National Weather Service says the dry conditions will continue through Saturday.
A Madisonville woman is being charged with falsely reporting an incident to the police. Jameria Thomas was arrested at the residence in the 200 block of Couch Street on Saturday evening. After speaking with those involved, the police concluded that Thomas furnished false information to the police to implicate the victim. The victim said he called 9-1-1 because he wanted an officer to help him get his things so he could leave. Thomas had reported to the officers that she had been attacked.
The Hopkins County Health Department is the recipient of a mental health grant for the public schools that will deal with the 2021 tornadoes.
Madisonville authorities are hearing about the driver who struck a pedestrian on East Center Street at Park Avenue. On Wednesday (Yesterday) morning, the Lincoln M-K-X being driven by a juvenile struck 35-year-old Audrey Cooper. The police report says Cooper appeared not to have any visible injuries but she was transported to the E-R.
Madisonville’s oldest jewelry store will be closing its doors. Clements Jewelry on South Main expects to shut down before October. Channel 14 is reporting that they are not able to compete with larger retail outlets and that the cost of repairs has up 60 percent in the last 4 years. Clements Jewelry opened in 1925.
