Daniel Reed Peyton, 91, of Dalton, KY, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at his home.
He was born on December 17, 1932, in Dalton, KY, to the late Modest Hallmark Peyton and Paul Peyton. He was a farmer and retired as master mechanic from P&M Colonial Mines. He liked to garden and golf and loved traveling. He and his wife visited all fifty of the United States. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends, who would say that he never met a stranger. Reed was a member and deacon at Stony Point Primitive Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Peyton, Jr.; brothers, Bobby Peyton and Bill Peyton; grandson, Aaron Farmer; and his son-in-law, Terry Tedder.
Survivors include his wife of seventy-two years, Ola Mae Johnston Peyton of Dalton; daughters, LaDonna (Ned) Cates of Madisonville, KY, and Linda Tedder of Dalton; son, Mark (Becca) Peyton of Slaughters, KY; daughter-in-law, Shirley (Eddie) Peyton-Martin of Dalton; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Elder Jeff Winfrey and Pastor Donny Coursey officiating. Burial to follow at Dalton Cemetery in Dalton KY.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Joey Farmer, T.J. Tedder, Andy Peyton, Paul Peyton, Jacob Cummings, Aldron Tedder, Erric Farmer, and Sawyer Peyton.
