New Order keyboardist Gillian Gilbert has shared that she is undergoing treatment for cancer, clarifying recent confusion surrounding the health of her husband and bandmate Stephen Morris.
In a statement addressing fans, Gilbert explained that Morris is well and that she is the one currently receiving medical care. The clarification followed comments that had led some listeners to believe Morris was dealing with a serious illness.
Gilbert thanked fans for their concern and support while also asking for privacy as she continues treatment. Her health situation has also provided context for recent changes to New Order’s touring plans, with Gilbert and Morris stepping away from upcoming performances, including scheduled dates in South America.
Gilbert has faced cancer before. She was treated for breast cancer in 2007 and later returned to performing with New Order.
The band has continued to remain active in recent years, with Gilbert playing an important role in its long-running lineup and distinctive sound.
