Wendell Owen Bennett, 77, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson.
He was born on May 4, 1949 in Ilsley, KY to the late James Elbert Bennett and Anna Louise Terry Bennett.
Wendell worked as a finance manager and was veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was also a member of the 3rd Guns Artillery, Lions Club, the Rotary Club, a Mason, and a past president of the Dawson Springs PTO.
He loved spending his time on the lake and traveling. He had a love for his hot rods and genealogy. His biggest love was for his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, LaDonna Franklin Bennett of Madisonville; daughter, Kim (Jim) Wyatt of Nashville, TN; son, Dustin (Jill) Bennett of Madisonville; and grandchildren, Dylan (Autumn) Cornette, Lacee (Darren) Knight, Colson Bennett, and Landan Bennett; along with eight great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home – Madisonville Chapel with Elder Jeff Winfrey and Chaplain Nick Duvall officiating. Burial will follow at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West at 2:00 P.M. with funeral honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Cornette, Colson Bennett, Landan Bennett, Jesse Smith, Westin Smith, Scott Franklin, Travis Franklin and Darren Knight. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth “Bud” Terry and Odell Hamby.
