The Facebook page of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is showing a vehicle suspected of leaving the scene of a collision. The HCSO says it occurred in the parking lot of Walmart on Thursday the 13th shortly before 11 in the morning. If you have details that might help, contact law enforcement.
In Madisonville, new rules allow the city to clear the property of a residence that’s been condemned by the city. Mark Beitler attempted to prevent any work being done at a Kentucky Avenue residence until it was found that he had been charged with trespassing on the property. This led to a new count of trespassing as the city learned that Beitler was not the property owner and had no right to say how the property is handled.
Repairs to the southbound Twin Bridge in Henderson are expected to be completed sometime this weekend. During this week’s inspection, they found support issues with the bridge. Officials say the specialized materials for a permanent repair may not be available for months. Until then, a temporary plan has been developed to safely re-open the right, southbound lane. Senator Robbie Mills says the bridge is a critical part of the transportation infrastructure in the county.
Madisonville Community College is gearing up for what they call All-in-One Continuing Education Training. Participants will be able to complete multiple continuing education requirements in one day. Six local residents are being indicted for drug related charges. The announcement was made at city hall in Madisonville by Police Chief Steve Bryan and representatives of a several law enforcement agencies .
Indicted are three Madisonville residents: 34-year-old Travis Civils, 44-year-old Brook Poe, and 46-year-old Robert Rice, two are Earlington residents: 41-year-old Teron Cox and 41-year-old Adam Pettus, and one Greenville resident, 69-year-old James Gunn. If convicted, each faces a minimum ten-year sentence, and a maximum of life.
Authorities in Central City are still investigating Tuesday morning’s home explosion. It occurred at about 1:20 AM on North 5th Street and injured 47-year-old Jimmy Bryant, who was found in the street. Bryant is still being treated for his injuries. Officials have discovered that there was a large quantity of gasoline inside the residence.
Kentucky is among the top states in terms of student growth in reading and math. That’s from the National Assessment of Educational Progress. In the last three years, Kentucky ranked 5th out of 35 states in reading and ranked 8th out of 38 states in mathematics. The chief academic officer says Kentucky is actively implementing the science of reading through initiatives like the Kentucky Reading Academies, which aim to improve literacy outcomes for students by enhancing educator training and instructional practices.
