Today is the sheriff’s last day. Matt Sanderson was at the helm for 11 years. He began his law enforcement career with the Madisonville Police Department in 1998.. Sanderson says he’s confident his chief deputy is ready for the job. Charlie Young will take over with the crime rate at a 20-year low. The new sheriff’s office is at 261 Responders Lane.
The Madisonville police say the man who attempted to enter a residence on East McLaughlin Avenue is facing trespass and burglary charges. Officials say Gabriel Wicks has recently been released from Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville. The police were told that Wicks had been at the residence twice in the evening and had a history of theft from the victim.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a man charged with strangulation, possession of marijuana, and tampering with physical evidence. Christopher Geary’s victim says it all began with an argument at his Gordon Avenue residence. When Geary was contacted, the police say he was in possession of a marijuana pen.
The state senator representing Hopkins County believes the 100-billion dollar energy and technology project that has just been announced in Paducah will create jobs throughout Western Kentucky. Robby Mills says the privately funded project is expected to create approximately 8-thousand construction jobs and 600 permanent positions. The Department of Energy project will transform the site of the former Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant into the Paducah American Energy Hub. This massive artificial intelligence data center and dedicated power generation campus is led by a partnership between NextEra Energy and investment giant Brookfield.
Madisonville Community College is one of the first schools in the state and nation to have its own airplane. MCC says it will enhance their aviation program by giving pilots a head start in their aviation careers. The Madisonville Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation says these kinds of investments strengthen our workforce pipeline, expand opportunities for students, and reinforce Hopkins County’s reputation as a place where industry can thrive.
The state is working to make the tourist industry more profitable. The governor says 2024 saw over 9-million travelers in the Commonwealth. Andy Beshear says every improvement and upgrade continues to make the investment profitable..
The governor is demanding that Senator McConnell prove that he’s still capable of serving in the Senate, otherwise, he will be replaced. Andy Beshear says he is prepared to call on Senate Majority Leader John Thune to investigate McConnell’s condition and begin the process of replacing him. The senator was hospitalized on June 14th and has not been seen in public since. Beshear says McConnell has cast zero votes, and engaged in no official activities.
