The M-P-D says there are people who will take over a residence if they can tell that no one is living there. Christopher Williams was arrested for spending three weeks in a home on Richmond Drive. The homeowner advised the police after noticing that the air conditining and lights were on. When the police investigated, Williams was asleep on the floor. He was charged with burglary and theft of services.
The Kentucky Agriculture Educator of the Year is going to a teacher at Hopkins Central High School. Ben Prevette (pruh-VET) was presented with the honor by the diversified insurance and financial services organization known as Nationwide, and by the Kentucky F-F-A Foundation. It was made at the Kentucky F-F-A State Convention. The award recognizes Prevette as an outstanding agricultural educator who is making a lasting impact on students and agricultural education.
Applications for Leadership Hopkins County are now open. The purpose of the program is to develop a source of informed, civic-oriented volunteer leaders who are interested in helping direct the future of Madisonville and Hopkins County, by developing and fostering a higher level of civic and community concern. Some Madisonville Community College students will receive stipends tied to completion of career development activities, along with access to scholarship funding to offset tuition costs. The college’s Emergency Medical Services–Paramedic program is expanding financial and career development support. M-C-C says the demand for professionals in emergency medical services is growing faster than the average for all occupations. State data shows persistent shortages of E-M-S personnel.

Central City now has an interim mayor. Taking the oath of office on Tuesday was Malcolm West. West was previously a county magistrate. The vote was unanimous. Mayor Tony Armour stepped down due to concerns about a roofing contract the city signed. The state Auditor of Public Accounts is in the process of checking the city’s books.
The city of Greenville is reminding the community of the noise ordinances as we enter we might call the firecracker season. There are more complaints about loud noises at this time of year than at any other time. The city’s ordinance speaks of disturbing and unnessary sounds. The announcement is just reminding residents that there is such a thing as unlawful noises.
The SAVE America Act is a proposed federal election bill that would require voters to provide documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote. They must also present a certified photo ID. The president strongly believes that only certified citizens should have the right to vote in our country. He is closely monitoring the legislation.
The SAVE Act may be stalled in Congress, but state versions are advancing across the country.
