Some electricity providers are warning customers to conserve power during this week of high heat. L-G & E and K-U are asking consumers and businesses to take steps and conserve electricity and try to help prevent rotating outages. Meanwhile, city officials in Madisonville say they are not under a power conservation alert. They say the city has guaranteed power and transmission.
In Frankfort, the Senate Majority Caucus Chair is out with a statement about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision upholding protections for women’s sports. Robby Mills says and I quote: Today’s decision is a victory for fairness, opportunity, and the integrity of women’s athletics. The Supreme Court has affirmed what many Kentuckians have long believed: women’s sports exist to provide women and girls with an equal opportunity to compete, succeed, and excel. End of quote. Senator Mills says he was proud to champion Kentucky’s Save Women’s Sports Act.
Skills Kentucky is connecting residents to Skills Training Opportunities. The governor says the training is being provided by a Bluegrass State Skills Court.

Due to the observance of Independence Day, Madisonville’s city offices will be closed tomorrow (Friday). Friday’s trash and recycle routes are running today.
It’s common for a policeman to spot a driver that he knows should not be behind the wheel. When this happened in Madisonville the other day, the officer did a traffic stop. Steven Upchurch still had a suspended driver’s license and the officer believed that he was under the influence of a controlled substance. Upchurch also had been texting. Even though the content of the message was about a drug sale, Upchurch denied that he sent the message. At this point, he was arrested. The officer then drove to Upchurch’s residence. His mother admitted she gave her son Loritabs to sell because he needed money. This led to charging Sherry Upchurch with trafficking a controlled substance.
In Hopkins County, one of the first nuisance foreclosure suits is coming about. In fiscal court, Hopkins County Attorney Lee Riddle says it’s at 5755 Anton Road.

The organization that is committed to empowering the residents of Muhlenberg County says it is glad to support the Ag Center with a 100-thousand dollar grant. The Felix E. Martin Junior Foundation says they are thrilled to help the Fair Board and Foundation’s Advisory Council in their project that will allow the Ag Center to be used year-round. The fans are expected to bring down the temperatures by nearly 15 degrees. It’s estimated that the increased use of the venue will result in approximately 50-thousand more dollars annually.
