The Hopkins County Humane Society is one step closer to rebuilding their shelter. Actually, it was a pretty big step. The largest fundraiser of the year came through. The Run for the Paws helped them reach their goal. Those responsible are the businesses, organizations, and individuals who stepped up. The humane society is working to provide a safe, modern facility for animal care.
In Muhlenberg County, the danger of the pipeline gasoline release and fire has ended. The fire department and law enforcement had their hands full with this challenge. State Route 175 will remain closed between Highway 62 and Bards Hill Road. State Route 175 is only open to residents.
Some state lawmakers are highlighting legislation enacted during the Legislative Session that establishes standards for the siting and decommissioning of large-scale merchant electric generation facilities, including solar arrays, battery storage facilities and wind energy projects. Lawmakers, including State Senator Robby Mills and Representative J-T-Payne of Henderson say the provisions, adopted through an amendment to House Bill 677, were developed in response to growing concerns from communities about the rapid expansion of large-scale renewable energy projects and the impact those developments can have on neighboring property owners. Kentucky currently has 58 counties that have adopted local planning and zoning regulations. 62 counties rely largely on state statutes to govern land-use decisions.
In Webster County, the annual Safety Day Program will be at Baker Park this evening. Besides the splash-pad and park equipment, there will also be firetruck rides and treats from Dibby’s Ice Cream truck. The event is hosted by the Public Library to teach children about community safety and first responders. The program will be from 5 until 6:30.
In Webster County, the water district is working to restore water pressure. They are asking customers who have had their water restored to please continue to be mindful of usage, so that they can refill their water towers and storage tanks, as well as continue to push water through the system. To conserve water use, it’s also suggested that residents not waste water. They say it would be good to hold off on filling your swimming pool and watering your garden. Meanwhile, the boil advisory remains in effect. At least one minute is needed for personal consumption uses.
A Madisonville man is charged with assaulting his roommate. Christopher Geary of Browning Avenue was also found to be in possession of marijuana. Geary was transported to the detension center.
The Hopkins County Jail is reporting a successful Foundations of Faith retreat for female inmates this past weekend. Volunteers from churches worked with chaplains Janice Moore and Pete Phelan. Many were impacted in an encouraging way by responding to the Gospel. This coming weekend is the men’s retreat.
Congressman James Comer is applauding the Trump Administration for charging 15 persons in Minnesota for their roles in fraud schemes that stole more than 90 million dollars from taxpayers. He noted that his Oversight Committee investigation revealed that Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison lied about their knowledge of the fraud.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is promoting seatbelt safety with the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety. A recent seatbelt survey found that nearly 50 per cent of motorists in Webster County are not wearing their seatbelt. They say the 2 seconds it takes is well worth it.
