The Pennyrile Area Development District says the Delta Regional Authority has announced 15 million dollars in funding through the Community Infrastructure Fund to support critical projects. Included is transportation and flood control. Applications are due Monday, August 24th. Interested communities will be contacting PADD’s Community & Economic Development staff.
The Hopkins County Humane Society says they are running low on shelter food. Needed is food for puppies and kittens, canned food for cats and dogs, and adult small-breed dog food. Donations can be dropped off or shipped to the shelter at 319 Dulin Street. The humane society says the community’s generosity helps ensure that the animals have full bellies while they wait to be adopted.
Kentucky’s junior senator is distinguishing himself as a constitutional liberties champion. Rand Paul’s Christian Employers Alliance Score for 2025 was 98 percent . That’s the top ranking in the Senate. The score is related to constitutional liberties, free enterprise, and religious freedom.
High gas and fertilizer prices are making life hard for the agriculture industry. In Washington, the Homegrown Fertilizer Act would offer federal loans and grants to mid-sized companies to produce more fertilizer. A farmer in Breckinridge County says many farmers are in a critical situation because they depend on imported products. He and others say the long-term sustainability of the country’s farming infrastructure is at risk as long as there is too much dependence on imported products.
The M-P-D is reporting the arrest of a man who admitted to smoking meth and taking valium before he took the wheel of his Dodge Ram 25-hundred. Joseph Gamble’s reckless driving is what drew the attention of witnesses along North Kentucky Avenue and Whittington Drive. Gamble was arrested at Lowes on Island Ford Road.
The Madisonville driver who ran through a stop sign before hitting another stop sign in the presence of a police officer is facing three charges. The officer reported that Zachary Massey
had constricted pupils, rapid speech, and uncontrollable arm movement. Massey was arrested after he failed the sobriety test.
In Webster County, the Water District says all of their customers should have water their service restored. If you are still without water, contact them. Crews have been flushing lines to remove air out of the system. They say they will continue working through those issues over the next few days. Water officials say residents still have to boil their water.
The most intense project in the history of I-69 is the new bridge from Kentucky to Indiana. Spokesperson Mindy Peterson says from the beginning, tolls were part of the equation.
The state police are proud of their new tool to fight crime. The Rook is an armored vehicle that’s like a tank that will be used in complex operations, including hostage situations, barricaded subjects, riot response and natural disasters. It was paid for with funds derived from criminal activity. In other words, the money to pay for the Rook came from the bad guys.
