The 4th District Magistrate will be Ronnie Noel. The new Ward 6 Madisonville City Council member is Kim McMurtrie Jones. In White Plains, the alcohol local option received 80 percent of the yes votes.
In Hopkins County, the sheriff’s office says the man who was injured by a projectile from a firearm last week is no longer receiving medical care. The incident occurred the 300 block of Bradley Sisk Road. The sheriff’s office says he was treated and released and that there is no threat to the community.
The driver of a speeding car that was swerving into both lanes on North Main Street is facing 6 charges. The police report states that the Toyota RAV 4 had the smell of alcohol, and that Bryce Dixon had a disheveled appearance, slurred speech, and glassy, bloodshot eyes. He told the officer that he was drunk. In the vehicle was found an open bottle of bourbon.

It’s not unusual for a traffic stop to lead to a number of charges. Douglas Koon was stopped in Madisonville because his brake lights were not functioning. After the office did his job, Koon was hit with 9 infractions. A k-9 alerted the police to illegal narcotics. Koon was in possession of a controlled substance. He also had no license plate and an improper prescription container. And the list went on. Koon is now at the county jail.
The challenges facing small businesses are what is bringing down a popular downtown Madisonville business. Big City Market & Coffee Bar will close its doors on June 27th. In these final days, customers are urged to use their gift cards. The Big City owners say one of the reasons for the decision is the growth of corporate businesses. The decision does not include the Big City B-B-Q truck. It will still continue to cater.
Many communities are involved in clean up programs. In Nortonville, the Hopkins County Spring Clean-Up will have a dumpster at Tootsies Diner at 173 Mockingbird Street through the 22nd.
