Obituary

Marilyn “Sue” Cunningham, 89, of Madisonville, KY passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2026.She was born on August 31, 1936, in Poseyville, IN, to the late Minnie West Gwaltney and Truman Gwaltney. She was a registered nurse for Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN, and Hopkins County Hospital. She was director of nursing at Kentucky Rest Haven and a registered nurse for Regional Medical Center. She was an avid reader and loved reading her Bible. Her world was her grandchildren and her family. She was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Glenn Cunningham; and her brother, John Gwaltney.

She is survived by her daughters, Stacy (Johnny) McGregor and Michele McCoy, both of Madisonville; three loving grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Odd Fellows Cemetery with Bro. Kenneth Blevins officiating. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers are Mark McGregor, Johnny McGregor, Lauren McGregor, Amber Pennington, Zach Pennington, and Bob Helm. The honorary pallbearers are Roy McGregor and Dwayne German.

The family would like to say thank you to the loving staff at Baptist Health Deaconess Hospital in Madisonville and Shemwell Nursing Home for their care and compassion.
