Obituary

Kathy Owen Skaggs, 68, of Mortons Gap, KY, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at her home.She was born on July 24, 1957, in Madisonville, KY, to the late Dorothy May Williams Owen and Paul Winfrey “Penny” Owen. She retired as a seamstress from Carhartt. She enjoyed sewing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and her family. Kathy attended Good Hope Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte Elliott.

Her survivors include her husband of forty-eight years, James Skaggs of Mortons Gap; son, Jody (Jody) Wells of Earlington, KY; brother, Louie (Eve) Owen of Mortons Gap, KY; sister, Sylvia (Harold Gallagher) McCraw of Benton, KY; grandson, James (Christine) Wells of Massachusetts; granddaughter, Haley (Parker) Johnson of White Plains, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Old Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap, KY with Pastor Charlie Spears officiating. Harris Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
