The state senator representing Hopkins, Henderson, Union, and Webster counties is being recognized as the most effective legislator in the Senate. This evaluation of Robby Mills is from a joint research, education, and outreach initiative between Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia. Mills says he is honored.
Primary Election Day is Tuesday, the 19th. The deadline to request an absentee ballot is tomorrow night at 11:59. Voting begins on Wednesday, the 6th. There are 10 voting days, and six of those are excused absentee voting days. Voters can cast ballots with an excuse that will keep them from the polls on Election Day. Thoses excuses include health issues or being away at college.
A domestic violence incident involving a woman who became concerned about her safety is resulting in assault charges against a man. The investigating officer described the injury that was inflicted by Sean Brogan in the woods behind the Salvation Army on McCoy Avenue. Brogan was arrested.
The Greenville police are holding two theft suspects. Both are from Greenville. The police say it is believed 26-year-old Robert Cummings illegally entered multiple vehicles and stole items such as a laptop, handgun and several credit cards. Also arrested is 27-year-old Autumn Cummings. She is suspected of five crimes. One of them is using a stolen credit card in the Ohio County town of Centertown.
Our senior senator is glad the president will be rolling back tariff’s on on bourbon and whiskey. Mitch McConnell says this move will give businesses the certainty they need to increase investment in Kentucky’s economy. 95 percent of the world’s bourbon is produced in the Commonwealth and the industry employs more than 23-thousand.
In Madisonville, today’s (0504) city council meeting has been canceled. The next meeting will be on Monday, the 11th, at 4:30 at city hall.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a man with a Christian County warrant. Markee Atwell was stopped on I-69. His Lincoln M-K-S’s registration had expired. After getting permission from Atwell to search the vehicle, the officer located a methamphetamine pipe and a small bag of suspected meth.
A Madisonville man is being charged with forgery regarding his certificate of release from the military. It was determined that James Werfelman’s documents did not meet the minimum requirements to even be a member of the V-F-W, or Quality for the Combat Action Ribbon. The American Legion also reported a discrepency. It was also found that Werfelman also recoded his fraudulent document to the Hopkins County Clerk’s Office.
In Washington, the House Oversight Committee Chairman is investigating California’s hospice programs for he calls rampant fraud. James Comer is citing reports that billions of dollars in federal taxpayer funds are being lost due to state negligence.
In Central City, an unofficial homeless shelter is being removed. The land owner of the non-profit Breakthrough Base at 304 East Everly Brothers Boulevard had the police remove the people from the property after an incident with the police. Now, the shelter residents have no where to go since the city has no shelters for the homeless.
