After years of planning, ground will be broken this week in Madisonville for the Western Kentucky Law Enforcement Training Facility. It’s needed to strengthen regional opportunities for Western Kentucky officers by providing professional development without the need for long-distance travel. The public is invited to the event on Wednesday at 1:45 at 2244 Bean Cemetery Road.
The Dawson Springs Independent School System is offering an interactive educational experience. The Hall of Amazing American Heroes Living Wax Museum will be available on Thursday from 12:30 until 2:30 at the Panther gym. This interactive educational experience is not just for students, but also for their families and friends. It’s to honor the brave service members who have received awards for their bravery and acts of valor.
The governor says Kentucky is one of five states involved in a program focused on lowering health care costs and increasing access in rural communities. UnitedHealthcare’s expansion of its Rural Payment Acceleration Pilot is designed to help hospitals get paid faster, as well as cut down on paperwork and increase care for families. Mr. Beshear says Kentucky is one of the states hit hardest by the federal cuts, and this program will make a difference.
Now that the General Assembly has convened, interim committee work will resume in June to monitor implementation of the new laws. It will also be the time when the issues for next year’s session will be studied. Many lawmakers say the new budget reflects the same fiscal common sense most families already practice. Lawmakers were inclined to be conservative after the state auditor identified more than a billion dollars in questionable costs, waste, and mismanagement across state government in recent years.
In downtown Madisonville, the historic Dulin Building is undergoing a major revitalization. The century-old building is being converted into apartments and a community-focus center.
Mayor Kevin Cotton is impressed with the plan.
The commercial real estate initiative is known as Legacy Spaces. This project follows years of efforts to save the building, which was once slated for demolition.

The fire safety training at the Madisonville Regional Airport is complete. The staff has been informed about the Madisonville Fire Department’s aircraft fire-response capabilities. This includes details about how they would respond to an incident on the field. The training also included a full tour of the facility, with evaluations of their fire fighting equipment.
The Earlington mayor is making good on one of his promises. Albert Jackson saw the need for improved cell phone reception and internet service. That’s why two new towers are being added. He says better network coverage means more reliable calls, faster internet, and stronger communication. He says the companies installing the towers will pay a monthly lease, contribute net revenue, and handle the maintenance.
