The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office says the charges against a man will be changed today. 41-year-old Jeremy Wynn had been charged with assault and wanton endangerment, but now 47-year-old Hallie Brown has passed away. Deputies were called to a home on Antioch Church Road in Hanson after the victim’s mother says she heard screaming. Brown was not able to communicate with law enforcement as she was flown to a hospital.
A traffic stop due to careless driving is what led to an arrest by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office. A search of the vehicle on U-S 41-A South near Providence revealed quantities of suspected methamphetamine, U-S currency, and drug paraphernalia. Placed under arrest and lodged in the Detention Center was Ali Avery. Avery is charged with three crimes, that include trafficking in a controlled substance.

A new law bars school districts from giving administrators a higher percentage raise than classroom teachers if they want state funding. The Kentucky Education Association says Senate Bill 2 supports fairness and transparency in district pay. The Kentucky Education Association says if superintendents are getting raises, then everybody else in the school system needs to be getting that raise, too.
Madisonville Community College says the award ceremony for the Regional Education Partnership Excellence-in-Teaching Award will take place today (Thursday) at M-C-C.
In Madisonville, engineers say muskrats are to blame for the sinkhole on one side of a wall at the south lake in City Park. The damage is being described as minor as the city is working with the state division of dam safety to make repairs. This will require draining a large portion of the lake. Repairs are expected to take six weeks.
The Madisonville police are charging a man with trespassing. Matthew Alexander has already been charged with trespassing at the Salvation Army on McCoy Avenue. The police say he knew he should not have been there. Now, Alexander is at the detention center.

The Green River Area Development District is thankful that the General Assembly in Frankfort has proposed 10 million dollars to support senior meals. They say this funding acknowledges how vital these programs are to older adults. At the same time, the executive director says current needs are closer to $20 million statewide. Kenneth Williams says that without additional support, programs that many seniors rely on every day could face difficult challenges.
The Congressional Joint Economic Committee says electricity costs in Kentucky increased by nearly 12 percent last year. NerdWallet shows gas prices are up more than 40 percent. This is leading the coordinator for Kentuckians for Energy Democracy and other advocates to push for the legislature to pass a measure that would place disconnection protections during extreme weather and bring Kentucky up to speed with the more than 40 other states with similar legislation.
