The police say the man who was attempting to enter multiple trailers at the Chateau Mobile Home Park on South Main is facing six charges. The police say Terill Lam was not only intoxicated, but threatened the police. They say Lam was in possession of marijuana, and also was charged with trespassing.
From now through April 13th, the K-S-P is teaming up with five neighboring states to crack down on distracted driving. It’s proven that taking your eyes off the road for just a few seconds can be devastating. Phone use by the driver has caused many accidents.
The Hopkins County Jail is now involved in a new program with the school district. The ARK Alert program involves trusted adults providing support, understanding, and care to children impacted by the incarceration or release of a parent.
Applications are being accepted for the Summer Teen Volunteer (VolunTEEN) Program at Owensboro Health. It’s described as a rewarding opportunity for teenagers 14 to 17 to gain first-hand exposure to a variety of hospital careers. At the same time, the Volun-TEEN program is a valuable service to patients, visitors, and staff. The deadline to apply is Friday, the 10th.
A statewide initiative involving 16 colleges is committed to combating food insecurity. The Kentucky Hunger Dialogue is part of the Universities Fighting World Hunger and Presidents United to Solve Hunger. This year’s Kentucky Hunger Dialogue Junior Fellows class includes Madisonville Community College student, Celine Gibson. Celine and several other students have been selected for their commitment to advance food justice, and empower communities across the state.
The Madisonville police are describing the intoxicated driver who was going the wrong way on a one-way street and had to be arrested. When he was stopped, Joseph Todd requested that he be given a sobriety test, but he refused to comply. Todd is also charged with careless driving and terroristic threatening.
The driver of a swerving car in Madisonville on Island Ford Road Road told the police that he had been at a party where they were shot-gunning beers. At first, Lucian Vaughn explained during the traffic stop that his poor driving was due to his attempt to make a phone call. Vaughn was not in possession of his driver’s license.
Lawmakers in Frankfort may overturn the governor’s veto of a measure that would lower the minimum age for concealed carry. House Bill 312 would change the the age requirement to obtain a concealed carry license from 21 to 18.
Two measures in the House are aimed at reducing sexual misconduct in the state’s schools. Kentucky Youth Advocates has tracked the rise in cases for several years. Between 2016 and 2021, 61 percent of the teachers who lost their licenses, lost them because of sexual misconduct. The legislative push comes as multiple cases have emerged.
Law enforcement wants to remind all drivers that the planting season is underway and that means slow-moving farm equipment will be using the highways. Officials warn that one of the biggest risks occurs when drivers attempt to pass.
