When a police officer spots a fugitive, it’s all about his capture. When Kalen Harris was spotted on South Main, a dangerous chase began in the direction of Earlington. When Harris lost control and crashed, he fled on foot into some woods, but in a short while, was captured. The police report stated that he was emanating the strong smell of alcohol and was in possession of a controlled substance. Harris admitted that before he began driving, he had been drinking, smoking marijuana, and taking xanax. Harris had no driver’s license or auto registration. Altogether, Harris is facing 15 charges.
There are more details about the deceased Christian County woman who was found in Nortonville. The state police say 39-year-old Emmy Forgette was reported missing on January 11th and found on private property in the 400 block of South Hopkinsville Street. The police say the the autopsy did not show any signs of an assault or foul play.
The Madisonville City Council meets this afternoon. They’ll consider resolutions to accept bids for a low hosebed pumper fire truck and sewer system improvements for the Rose Creek Road Sewer Extension. The 4-30 meeting will be at city hall.
In Washington D-C, the Hemp Industries and Farmers Association is urging Congress to follow the administration’s lead, and act swiftly to protect the thriving hemp industry and the hundreds of thousands of jobs it supports. Presently, the hemp industry has nearly half a million jobs. Economic activity is estimated to generate in the vicinity of 50 billion dollars.
It’s spring clean up time in Earlington. Residents will have access to a dumpster until the 17th.
A Webster County school bus driver is being charged with operating a commercial vehicle while under the influence, and wanton endangerment. The sheriff’s office arrested 36-year-old Cody Wilson on Friday. There were 19 students and 3 teachers on the bus.
The M-P-D says the driver of a G-M Sierra who was doing 51 on South Main Street is facing four charges. During the traffic stop, Bou Anderson could not provide proof of insurance or a driver’s license.
The governor is not pleased with some of the budget cuts proposed by the Republican dominated legislature. Andy Beshear claims cuts in Medicare will place the health-care system in jeopardy and will harm families.
In the next few days, Hopkins County’s Senator Robby Mills will be sharing details about the just-enacted state budget and road plan.
Voting deadlines are approaching. The deadline to register to vote is Monday, the 20th at 4. Early voting runs May 14th to the 16th from 8 until 4. Voters can request a mail-in absentee ballot online through May 5th. Completed ballots can be mailed back or dropped in a secure dropbox. In-person absentee voting runs May 6th through May 13th for those who qualify. Election Day is Tuesday, May 19th. The polls will be open from 6 to 6.
