Two Madisonville residents spotted fighting on a Murray Street sidewalk are facing charges. The police report states that each woman accused the other of starting the fight, and witnesses did not want to speak. Both Delilah Hughes and Brandy Tichenor admitted they had been drinking. Hughes and Tichenor were transported to the detention center.
The city of Hanson has a new Facebook page. The city says it’s a good way to keep up with the community.
The Hopkins County Young Professionals Hall of Fame has two new members. Ken Gibson served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, was a state senator for 14 years, and is a veteran real estate broker. Deborah B. Morrow of Earlington is a W-K-U and Lindsey Wilson College graduate, a mental health therapist, and member of the Hopkins County Board of Education. The Hopkins County Hall of Fame Dinner is this evening at Mahr Park Arboretum.
Growing in popularity in the Hopkins County Schools is the Second Chance Breakfast. The pilot program has been at Browning Springs Middle School, but other schools will soon be involved. There’s no charge due to the Community Eligibility Provision. The district says the meal includes a hot entree, like a chicken biscuit, sausage biscuit, breakfast burrito, or a breakfast pizza. Presently, the program feeds over 300 students every day.
In Frankfort, the state attorney general is part of the group calling on the governor to authorize the execution of more than a dozen inmates on death row. Russell Coleman says the Commonwealth has not carried out an execution in almost 20 years. Coleman says Mr. Beshear needs to take action to provide closure for the families of the victims.
Emergency management says Western Kentucky is susceptible to fire due to the dry, windy conditions. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
Madisonville’s new power plant is coming together. It will be located near the Wastewater Treatment Plant on A-C Slaton Road. A lot of work has just recently been completed with the delivery of the engines. Mayor Cotton says the delivery trucks were huge.
When completed next year, the facility will support the power needs of 11 municipal electric utilities—including Madisonville, Owensboro, and Providence. In some cases, it will act as a backup for solar and hydroelectric power.
In Hopkins County, the sheriff’s office will close Property Tax collections on Wednesday, the 15th. Unpaid bills will be forwarded to the Clerk’s Office to resume collections with additional fees.
The governor is not pleased with some of the cuts made to the budget.
16FRANKFORT 0327 In Frankfort , the first lady will oversee the formation of the Human Trafficking Awareness Coalition. Governor Beshear says Britainy understands that the intention is to prevent human trafficking. The coalition will also help to seek justice and deliver meaningful results.
