Dozens of veterans will soon travel to our nation’s capitol. To show appreciation for their service, Honor Flight of Southern Indiana is inviting veterans, also from Western Kentucky, and parts of Illinois, to take part in the free flight. Before the flight, a pork chop dinner fundraiser takes place on Saturday,the 21st. Details are on the Facebook page of Honor Flight of Southern Indiana.
A Madisonville man is jailed for making a false report to the police. Darrell Stevens informed authorities that his young daughter was being abducted by some Hispanic males. The police could not verify his claim. Later, the police located Stevens’ daugthter. She was asleep at in her mother’s home in Henderson.
The traffic stop of a driver on East Center Street is what led to her arrest. Sarah Herron was found to have slurred speech, glassey eyes, and the smell of intoxicating beverages on her person. The officer reported that she appeared to be unsteady on her feet as she was given the sobriety test. Herron was arrested on suspecion of intoxication. Once in the patrol car, Herron volunteered to surrender her marijuana. Her five charges include possession of drug paraphermalia.

The Madisonville police have the story about the person who sat parked in her car at a gas pump for over an hour. The incident with Mya Harvey was at the Ideal Market on East Center Street. She told the police that she was O-K, but the officer could smell marijuana. After she denied having marijuana in the vehicle, a folded dollar bill containing a white, powderly residue was located. Also found were some oxicodone and hydrocodone pills that she admitted that she had been snorting. Harvey was transported to the detention center.
The Hopkins County Young Professionals Hall of Fame has two new members. Ken Gibson served in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, was a state senator for 14 years, and is a veteran real estate broker. Deborah B. Morrow of Earlington is a graduate of W-K-U and Lindsey Wilson College, a mental health therapist, and served on the Hopkins County Board of Education. The Hall of Fame Dinner will be at Mahr Park on Thursday, April 2nd.
Dawson Springs will soon include a new industry. There are many details to be worked out, but Mayor Jenny Sewell says the industrial park will include a training center.
A drug that contributed to the deaths of nearly 50 Kentuckians is being banned around the nation. Attorney General Russell Coleman says the Drug Enforcement Administration has added bromazolam (bro-MAZ-uh-lamb) to the federal schedule of controlled substances. A Schedule-One drug designation empowers law enforcement across the country to crack down on bromazolam while increasing awareness of the drug’s potentially deadly effects.
