The Madisonville Regional Airport is glad to announce that it’s open again. They say it took several days of hard work to clear the runways. They are thanking several city departments for their assistance.
The Kentucky Sports Factory continues to prove that it was a wise decision for the city and county. Mayor Kevin Cotton says several thousand persons were there this past weekend for a vollyball tournament.
A Madisonville man is charged with five crimes, including burglary and fleeing from the police. In responding to a disturbance call on Beaver Creek Drive, the police ended up locating Robert Evans who attempted to flee on foot from a Whittington Drive address. Evans was found to be in possession of a screwdriver. The police say he was using it to open the door to a new trailer. Inside, officers located drug paraphernalia.
A Madisonville man is facing assault charges. Charles Crews was arrested at the Pennyrile Park Apartments on South Kentucky Avenue because the officer determined that Crews would continue harming the victim. The police report indicates that Crews had had injured the victim in the past.
When it comes to serving the public, one of the top organizations in Madisonville is the Salvation Army. They have just begun a new service. Residents can go online and share their prayer requests. Contact informaton is on the Salvation Army Facebook page.
A priority housing bill is now before lawmakers in Frankfort. Hopkins County Senator Robbie Mills says the measure builds on more than two years of work by the Kentucky Housing Task Force and delivers a practical, pro-growth solution to the commonwealth’s housing shortage. He says it cuts red tape and gives local governments and private developers new tools to build the roads, utilities and infrastructure needed to support large residential developments. Mills says if approved, the measure will help meet the growing demand for housing.
Firefighters say the Webster County water shortage is what led to the total loss of a Dixon residence on Monday morning. Fire crews had to rely exclusively on tanker trucks for water.
The Poole Volunteer Fire Department reported no injuries. At least seven fire departments participated. The cause of the fire is not known but it’s believed to have started in the basement.
The mayor of Dawson Springs says the rebuilding of city park has been anything but simple. Jenny Sewell says the pool project is underway. She also says the state is really stepping up to help Dawson Springs.
In Frankfort, a committee wants to expand the drug monitoring system to include medical marijuana. It calls for the state’s electronic monitoring system to also track medical marijuana certifications and sales in real time. The measure treats medical marijuana as something separate from opioids and other scheduled drugs, while still placing it under the same statewide monitoring and diversion-control infrastructure.
