The Madisonville Police Department says fentanyl remains one of the most dangerous drug threats. They say the deadly synthetic opioid is often hidden in counterfeit pills and mixed into other street drugs. The Drug Enforcement Administration reports that nearly 1 in 3 fentanyl pills tested contains a potentially lethal dose. Parents are encouraged to speak to their children about the dangers of taking any pill not prescribed by their doctor. They also say anyone who needs help should phone the 9-8-8 Lifeline.
Plans are coming together in Hopkins County in regards to the State of the Cities and County Address. It’s the annual breakfast that brings together elected officials to discuss community progress and challenges in a public forum. It will be on Thursday, March 5th from 7:30 until 9 at the Ballard Convention Center. It’s not too late to be a sponsor.
Fire and Rescue in Clay is reporting no injuries in a garage fire Sunday night. Several agencies addressed the emergency on West Elm Street. The residence was saved but some of the home’s exterior siding will have to be replaced.
Kentucky Congressman James Comer says there are growing questions about Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar’s (ILL-hahn OH-marz) net worth. The House Oversight Committee says it has increased from near zero to as much as 30-million dollars. The congressman was a guest on Fox News.
In Madisonville, the Salvation Army shelter is open 24 hours a day. Even if you just need a place to warm up, you are welcome. The address is 805 McCoy Avenue.
The growth of Madisonville is one of the mayor’s favorite subjects. Not only is the city marketing itself around the country, but leading a group of Kentucky cities who want to follow Madisonville’s lead. Here’s Mayor Kevin Cotton.
In Muhlenberg County, it’s being reported that several ambulances have gotten stuck in the snow and were not able to complete their task. Channel 14 is reporting that crews are using a large pickup because it’s better at negotiating the treacherous roads. Officials say it you see an ambulance stuck in the snow with a truck nearby, please give them plenty of room.
The Madisonville Police Department is announcing the graduation of three officers from the Western Kentucky Basic Training Academy Class. Ethan Levill received the Top Shot Award, and Caydon Bean received the highest physical fitness award and most improved in physical fitness. Steven Ealey served as class adjutant. Levill, Bean, and Ealey are now in Field Training.
Due to fraud allegations, child care centers and households across Kentucky are bracing for a federal freeze on child care assistance. So far, there have been no documented fraud cases, but the freeze could still be extended to the state. It’s well known that many households are unable to make job interviews because they lacked child care. Federal data indicates more than one million children nationally receive a child care subsidy from the nation’s Child Care and Development Fund program.
