In Hopkins County, investigators are working to establish a motive in the home break-in last Friday night of a Madisonville residence on Fowler Road. Deputies report that the home owner shot the intruder who had made a forced entry. 52-year-old William Hendrix of Mortons Gap remains hospitalized in critical condition. 81-year-old Van Williams also sustained injuries and visited the E-R. The H-C-S-O investigation continues.
A burned out brake light is what caught the attention of a Madisonville cop on North Street. Joaquin Santers could not produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance. Santers told the cop he had been in the U-S for 5 years but failed to get his license in that time.
A major revitalization effort is in the early stages in downtown Madisonville. The Historic Dulin Building formally opened 115 years ago. It was once slated for potential demolition, but was sold early last year to a developer for renovation into apartments and a community-focused center. This project was championed by the Kentucky Trust for Historic Preservation. Now, the commercial real estate initiative known as Legacy Spaces is renovating it for tenants and possibly an upscale business or two. Presently, huge structural needs are being addressed.
Two constitutional measures are being considered in Frankfort. S-B 10 proposes an amendment would limit the governor’s ability to issue pardons and commutations for 90 days around a gubernatorial election. Here’s Keith West with the report on S-B 51.

This is the time of year when blood shortages are common. To encourage donors, the American Red Cross says the names of all donors will be entered into a chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl in California on February 9th. Also, all who give from January 26th to February 28th will receive a 20-dollar e-gift card.
In Greenville, the Army is reporting that their helicopter flight operations will continue through the 28th. The 101st Airborne Division is conducting the exercises at the Wendel H. Ford Regional Training Center.
The marijuana dispensary in Beaver Dam that closed right before Christmas because it ran out of product is now back in business. The Post Dispensary on North Main Street sells safe medical cannabis to eligible residents. Products at the store were grown by Farmtucky. It’s the first licensed cultivator to bring medical marijuana to the market.
The new Interstate Highway 69 bridge project will include tolls. The Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority says the General Assembly passed legislation requiring it to be tolled. The Tolling Body is responsible for developing toll rates and business rules for tolling. The group is expected to meet in the near future.
