Obituary
He was born on April 23, 1942, in Earlington, KY, to the late Pauline Qualls Hayes and Johnny F. Hayes. He was the pastor for West Side Community Church. He was an avid UK Basketball Fan and enjoyed yard work and gardening. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Bro. Tommy’s passion was sharing the gospel of his Lord and Savior and was thankful for his calling to be a pastor and serve our community for over thirty years. He was a member of Carter’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Madisonville in his later years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Ginger Shelton Hayes; son, Maurice Chan Hayes; grandson, Taroh Dominick Negyen; brothers, John Hayes, Jimmy Ray Hayes, and Wayne Hayes; and his sisters, Helen Sue Myers and Evelyn Perkins.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas Trent (Kelly) Hayes of Madisonville, KY, Terry (Mary Jane) Hayes of St. Charles, KY, and John Hayes of Grand Junction, CO; daughter, Chandra (Allen) Beck of Evansville, IN; sister, Jo Ann Ashby of Kuttawa, KY; brother, Kenny (Ann) Hayes of Madisonville; grandson, Ramachi Hayes of Grand Junction, CO, and Zach (Rachel) Hayes of Clarksville, TN; granddaughters, Adelene Beck and Elise Beck, both of Evansville, IN and Ann Marie (Tyran) Holmes of Hopkinsville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Vannoy officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Madisonville.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made towards Bro. Tommy’s and Ginger’s monument.
Pallbearers are John Ervin, Zach Hayes, Danny Perkins, Bill Davis, Terry Hayes, and Bill Winebarger.
