The Madisonville police are hoping someone can identify two suspects involved in debit card fraud at Dollar General. The crimes occurred at both of Madisonville’s Dollar General locations, North Main Street and South Main Street. There are photos of the suspects on the M-P-D Facebook page. Residents who can help make some identifications will be doing everyone a big favor.
In the final days of 2025, the Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation describe it as good year. The county secured 2-million dollars through the Kentucky Product Development Initiative for another Madisonville Industrial Park. It also earned C-S-X Select Silver Site recognition, celebrated the Hofmann Packaging announcement, and saw 30-million dollars in new retail.
Kentucky is one of nine states in the process of lowering its income tax. Actually, Kentucky may not just lower it, the legislature may permanently eliminate it. The 8 other states working to lower their state income tax are Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, and Oklahoma.
In Frankfort, the Kentucky Treasurer is hoping that the state can expand and streamline services to return unclaimed property. It’s being reported that since he took office two years ago, Mark Metcalf has returned over 80-million dollars in unclaimed property. The governor is glad for the decision of the Trump Administration to accept the Commonwealth’s Rural Health Transformation Plan. Kentucky will receive 212 million dollars to lessen the impacts of recent federal cuts and help support health care in rural communities.
The Messenger is reporting that the Access for Rural Community Health Coalition would like to start a new substance abuse prevention program. It would be geared at middle and high school students. The plan is to give kids something to do when they are not involved in school activities in order to draw their attention away from substance abuse. Madisonville Community College is preparing to help meet the need for a growing aviation workforce. The new Aviation Maintenance Technology Program begins in the Spring. Students will gain the skills needed to inspect, service, and do some repairs. M-C-C says graduates will have a thorough understanding of all the components of an aircraft.
The Webster Co. Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a man found passed out on a walking trail at Sebree Springs Park. Arturo Juan-Sebastian is facing five charges, including resisting arrest and harassment by physical contact. Deputies say a taser was used when Juan-Sebastian attempted to flee.
Animal advocates are reminding pet owners that the cold can be as dangerous for them as it is for humans. They say you should bring your dogs inside when the temperature drops below freezing. This is especially true for small, old, sick, or short-haired breeds. For most dogs, temperatures below 20° are dangerous.
