The M-P-D is reporting the arrest of an Illinois man during a traffic stop. Nathan Nance was observed by the police making an illegal turn on East Noel. His Chevrolet Impala (em-PAH-luh) had an expired registration. In speaking with Nance, the officer suspected that Nance had been drinking. After failing a sobriety test, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered in Nance’s possession.
The folks at the Senior Citizens Center in Madisonville say the senior citizens who are not part of the activities don’t know what they’re missing. Sharon Smith says the major benefit of enjoying the center is the socialization.
The center is at 200 North Main.
The state’s first medical marijuana dispensary is temporarily closed. That’s because The Post Dispensary in Beaver Dam is sold out of product. Farmtucky says says they will reopen next month. Farmtucky is the state’s first licensed cultivator to bring medical marijuana to the market.
Earlington is known for its community Blessing Box. It provides free non-perishable food, toiletries, and blankets for those in need. It operates on a “take what you need, leave what you can” principle. The Blessing Box is funded by community donations. It’s located at Earlington City Hall across the railroad tracks.
It was not a gas leak, it was a gas burner left completely open that caused an alarm at the Elk Creek Manor Apartments. Upon arriving, the fire department noticed an intense gas smell, so Atmos Energy was contacted. The investigation involved several apartments until they found a tenant who had left a burner on his stove wide open.
A driver knows something is wrong when he smells something burning. It happened at the intersection of North Main Street and Nebo Road. By the time first responders got there, there was a traffic jam. When the hood was opened, they discovered a melted and frayed serpentine (SIR-pin-teen) belt in the engine compartment . It had been burning but now the fire was out.
Mostly people consider Madisonville a small city. Whatever it is, a growing number of residents living in or nearby are starting to recognize that for its size, Madisonville has an amazing number of attractions. Naturally, Mayor Kevin Cotton agrees. He says pick a season, and Madisonville has something to offer.
In Owensboro, Brescia University is working to meet the needs of it graduate students. A nearly 2-million dollar gift from a local couple has allowed the school to acquire seven brownstone homes that are near the campus. Brecia also says juniors and seniors who are committed to continuing their education at Brescia after graduation could also live there.
The Hopkins County Jail is thanking the Christmas Behind Bars Outreach Ministry and Care A Cell for their generous donation of Christmas bags. They say they appreciate the partnership.
