Shirley Retta Cates, 91

Mrs. Shirley Retta Cates, 91, of Hartford, KY and formerly of Hopkins Co., KY, died Monday, December 1, 2025, at Owensboro Mercy Health System in Owensboro, KY. Born August 23, 1934, in Webster Co., KY, she was the daughter of the late Fred Stevens and Goldie Vay Hicks Stevens. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ruby Cates; two sons, Fred Wayne Cates and Richard L. Cates, and a sister, Frances Stevens. Mrs. Cates was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are her daughter, Sandra Cates of Hartford, KY; two brothers, Earl Stevens of Owensboro, and William Cates of Louisville, KY; and two grandchildren, Lyndsy Chinn and Cody Chinn. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday December 4, 2025, at Barnett- Strother Funeral Home Bro. Rodney Albin officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near Nebo, KY.
