There will be a Hopkins County Fiscal Court meeting this morning, one hour later, at 11, at the Government Center. New business will include modifications to Huddleston Loop. The county attorney will also make a recommendation from the Opioid Fund Committee.
In Muhlenberg County, the report of a trespasser is what led to his arrest. In Greenville, the Sheriff’s Department located 47-year-old Shaun Henry in a wooded area off of Corley Road. Henry is now in the detention center charged with several drug crimes, including trespassing and with possession of marijuana. Henry was also served with two outstanding warrants. Those crimes include robbery, stalking, and burglary.
The Dawson Springs Independent School System is implementing a new afternoon pick up traffic flow system for the elementary school. Only one lane is available. Drivers are to stay in that lane all the way down to the stop sign at Hickory Street. If you are picking up middle or high school students after picking up an elementary student, please turn right onto Panther Way to pick them up. Those parking in the church parking lot will need to exit at the far end that is closest to the Board Office, and turn right on Eli Street in the direction of Arcadia Avenue. Middle and high school students should be picked up in front of the high school.
The new Hopkins County school calendar is out. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 12th. The fall break is the week of October 5th.
The state police program that provides thousands of children with a way to deal with traumatic events ends today. Trooper Teddy has helped ease the fear of thousands of children. Teddy bears are available for 20-dollars at this address: kentucky-state-police dot k-y dot G-O-V.
The state senator representing Hopkins County is being recognized again as a County Advocate. Robby Mills says the honor comes from the Kentucky Association of Counties. Mills says he believes much of a community’s success is found in how their local government does for the community many of the things business and industry cannot do.
Weather permitting, the state plans to do a lot of milling and paving in Madisonville on North Main Street this week. The work will be at the intersection of U-S 41, U-S 41-A and Island Ford Road. Weather permitting, it will be completed on Thursday.
The U-S Representative for this district feels like he has a decision to make. Some have encouraged James Comer to run for governor. He says he has a number of months to decide. (Clip in audio below)
The Kentucky Community and Technical College System is once again seeking 16 high school teachers and counselors to recognize with the Pathfinder of the Year Award. Nominations need to be submitted by the 31st. The Pathfinder Award honors the educators who inspire students to dream big. One educator will be selected from each of the system’s 16 service areas. Nominations may be submitted by any K-C-T-C-S student, faculty or staff member, as well as high school personnel.
Today is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Many call it GivingTuesday. The folks at the Salvation Army join all of the other non-profits in thanking those who understand the importance of what they do.
