A Madisonville restaurant wants to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. The Oasis Southwest Grill is offering a free Thanksgiving buffet. It will be tomorrow (Thursday) from noon until 2, or as long as the supplies last. The Oasis Southwest Grill is at 540 Powell Drive.
The Madisonville police have the details about the arrest of a woman at Huck’s Gas Station on National Mine Road. The store had called for emergency help because they perceived her to be high on drugs. The officers agreed that Mattie Clark was under the control of a foreign substance. She eventually admitted that she had taken meth and fentanyl. After receiving medical clearance, Clark was admitted to the county jail.
The Green River Area Development District has good news. Union County Judge Executive Adam O’Nan has been officially sworn in as the new Kentucky Association of Counties president. Many believe he will have a positive impact on GRADD.
It’s hoped that a new technology will help state troopers slow drivers down and keep construction workers safe. Automated enforcement tracks a vehicle’s speed from camera to camera. The state says construction workers are risking their lives doing road improvements. Speeding drivers are being handed 500-dolllar tickets.
The Kentucky Council on Post-Secondary Education is announcing that the number of residents with some form of higher education is up by 5 percent compared with last year. Spokesman Aaron Thompson says the Commonwealth ranks among the top states seeing an increase. He pointed out partnerships with colleges and universities and state investment have helped make college costs more transparent.
City Hall in Madisonville is announcing that it will be closed on both Thanksgiving Day, and Friday. Regular work hours return on Monday, December 1st.
It was a vehicle collision that brought the M-P-D to Pepper Drive. As the police arrived, they saw a man carrying a baby walking away. Christian Cleveland was visibly shaking and admitted that he had consumed anti-anxiety and anti-depression medication. He said he had insurance, but when the police called Progressive, they said the policy lapsed earlier this month. After Cleveland failed the sobriety test, he was arrested and charged with three crimes, including wanton endangerment and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating substance.
Owensboro Health has a new Chief Medical Informatics Officer. Bridget Burshears has more than a decade of clinical leadership. She joined Owensboro Health 14 years ago as the N-I-C-U Medical Director. Dr. Burshears will continue to work part-time as a Neonatologist (nee-oh-nuh-TAH–loh-gist) for the Owensboro Health Medical Group. She is widely respected as both a clinician (kluh-NIH-shun) and a partner in innovation.
The Christmas movie filmed in Madisonville will soon have it’s premier. Mayor Kevin Cotton says it also has a new name. (Clip in audio below)
The West Kentucky Film Commission recently spent several days in Hollywood learning how to make this region a profitable motion picture locale. Cotton says he had been told that without the film commission, the film industry would not be so likely to know what Western Kentucky can offer.
