The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup is facing nine charges. Jason Woods told the officer that he swerved to avoid hitting a car on Carriage Lane and hit the guardrail of a bridge. Woods failed the sobriety test, and tested positive for cannabis. Inside the vehicle, the officer located a large quantity of Gabapentin. The pickup was not licensed and was not insured.
The first and only woman elected governor of Kentucky has died. Martha Layne Collins was 88. She served from 1983 to 1987. Collins’ is credited with leading the way for a the construction of a sprawling Toyota assembly plant.
An important road project that’s on the drawing board for Madisonville is the connecting of Midtown Boulevard and Whittington Drive. Mayor Cotton says the city will be partnering with the state on this one. (Clip in audio below)
In Webster County, an effort is being made to beef up (no pun intended) their food pantries. They have four. Each depends on donations. They are the Community Food Bank in Providence, Landon’s Hope in Sebree, Common Garments Ministry near Providence, and God’s Corner Free Store in Clay.
The Health and Family Services staff at the Pennyrile Area Development District is a little more capable of caring for their constituents. They are back from this year’s Kentucky Department for Aging and Independent Living’s Aging Conference that was held in Lexington. They are reporting that they gained valuable information and tools to continue enhancing the services they provide.
Due to potential lapse of SNAP benefits, the governor is declaring a state of emergency. The executive order is directing the initial 5 million dollars to be disbursed to Feeding Kentucky food banks. The food banks reach an estimated one in seven Kentuckians annually. This executive decision will provide food for the next several days.

One person is nursing minor injuries from a 2-vehicle collision in Madisonville on Thursday afternoon. The police say the front bumper of 28-year-old Kaeli Webster’s Ford Focus struck the rear bumper of 61-year-old Patty Carmon’s Chevrolet Cruze on South Main at West McLaughlin. Carmon was transported to the E-R.
These are difficult days for the fledgling hemp industry. In Washington, Congress is attempting to ban hemp products containing the present suggested percentage of T-H-C. Senator Rand Paul disagrees with the proposal to reduce T-H-C, adding that Senator McConnell is for it. (Clip in audio below) Paul says if the T-H-C level is changed, it could end the hemp industry.
