Lyla Mae Hammack, 85, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Sunday March 22, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 1, 1940, in Madisonville, to the late Joseph Cleveland Prow and the late Hazel Marie Oliver. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her first husband, Jasper E. Thomas; her second husband, Paul Hammack; Her brothers, James Hunt, Wallace D. Hunt, John Hunt, Paul Prow, and Harold Prow; and her sisters, Mary Ruth Hunt Duncan and Sue Prow Nance. Lyla retired from the Region Two Vocational Education Office, where she held the title of Business Manager. She loved reading her funnies, so much so that it was tradition to wrap Christmas presents with them at Christmas time. In her free time, she enjoyed watching her T.V. shows. She is remembered for her love of her family, and animals of any kind. A special place in her heart was reserved for her cats, which extended to the strays that would find their way to her. She will be remembered as “everyone’s Aunt Lyla”. She is survived by her daughter, Belinda McClain of Madisonville; her brothers, Alvin (Sue) Prow of Washington, IN, and Gene Prow of Hannah, WY; her granddaughter, Caitlin McClain of Madisonville; and a host of nieces and nephews that will greatly miss her. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home – Madisonville Chapel with Bro. Dennis Coombs officiating. Burial will follow in Frazier-Blackwell Cemetery in Providence, KY. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the service time Wednesday at the funeral home in Madisonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Hopkins County Humane Society or toward any Multiple Sclerosis Association of choice. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
